I went to a garage sale this morning because in the paper they advertised American Girl stuff. I figured it was worth getting up at 6:00 a.m. on a Saturday. LOL
They didn't have any dolls or clothes so I was a little disappointed, but they had some books. I bought two of Josefina's short stories, Kit's art set, Kirsten's paper dolls, and the big hardback collection of all Molly's stories. I also bought a tin that says "American Girls Collection" and has all their pictures on it.
The woman across from me saw what I was getting and grabbed up the rest of the books before I could. Grrr... I was annoyed, but I guess that's the way it goes at garage sales. Oh well, at least I got a few nice things.
My daughter Rachel went with me because I was mostly buying the stuff for her, although I'm sure we'll both be reading the Molly and Josefina books. I laughed when I opened the books because written on the inside covers was "To Rachel S. from Mom" and it had the date. I laughed because our last name also starts with S. I think my Rachel was destined to have those books.

What a great find! Even if you had to wake up at 6 am, I think it was worth it. I think the Molly collection in and of itself is a wonderful addition to any AG library.
But I also think that the lack of any AG dolls must have been a real disappointment, given the seller's advertisement specifically referencing AG.

I think sometimes when good stuff like American Girl is specifically mentioned in ads, that some people go to the address the night before the sale and ask if they can pre-buy. I know I've had people do it when I was having a sale (not selling AG stuff naturally!). I've always refused because I don't think it's fair to the people who are waiting for the sale to start, but I think some people just want to get rid of their stuff and don't care who buys it. Sometimes people let their friends preview and buy before the sale starts too. It makes me mad because it's not fair, but there's not much you can do about it.

I love garage sales, but I have only seen one advertised with AG stuff. I drove 40 minutes last year to go to it.
I got there 15 minutes before the time listed, and most of the AG stuff was gone, but I did get the retired husky and sled and the terrific tubing outfit for $15. I wouldn't have bought these on ebay, or full price if they weren't retired, but the price was right!
My friend went to a yard sale last year and they had AG dolls and tons of outfits. The dolls were $10, and complete outfits were $5! Silly girl didn't buy up the whole lot like I would have!!
I'm still hoping that I will someday come across something like that, but I would say it's a pretty slim chance. Still, looking is still fun, you never know what you'll find!

That is so cool about the inscription. I also think your daughter was meant to have them!

That's an awesome find! I'm am always hoping to find more AG stuff. I just know that someday I'll be lucky enough to find an AG in a thrift store or something. I've found a Bitty, but I'm still holding out for an AG!

I love hearing these garage sale find stories. How nice to add to your AG library.
I only have one garage sale AG find but it was a good one - Samantha's Scenes and Setting for $1. The outside cover was pretty beat up, but the inside was perfect.
